Project VistaPeru - A Humanitarian Service Project
In February 2009, Woodstock students will once again have the opportunity to pack their book bags and head south. WUHS Project VistaPeru is gearing up to build an addition to a health clinic in the Amazon jungle of Peru.
Thanks to overwhelming support from the Woodstock area community, Project VistaPeru has built two village schools inthe rain forest along the Amazon River: Cabo Pantoja in 2005 and San Juan de Huashalado in 2007. By using local fundraisers Woodstock Union High School has raised over $53,000 for the building costs and $15,000 for wells. Donations are now being accepted for medical supplies, another well, and a new clinic addition. We also need your help to fund scholarships for students who might not otherwise be able to afford the trip.
This year we are hoping to raise $20,000 for the project. The effort is overseen by School staff, parents, and community members. A team of twenty-six students as well as nine chaperones will be going to Peru in February 2009 to begin the needed work. With the help of the local people, the Vermonters will spend two weeks rebuilding the clinic and making improvements to the schools and the community.
